Berkhout is a small village in Noord Holland, near the city of Hoorn. It is located near the large 'de Hulk' recreation area that is famous for its many forests and meadows. Berkhout is also surrounded by water: both the Markermeer and the IJsselmeer are located close to the village.
Water sports enthusiasts can indulge themselves on the Markermeer. Surfing, sailing, fishing, swimming... it's all possible. From the Markermeer you can also sail on the polder water at the canoe transfer point and discover the beautiful nature of North Holland by boat.
It is definitely worth exploring the surrounding area of Berkhout, not only by boat, but also by bicycle and on foot. From the park, there are beautiful cycling and walking routes through the woods, meadows and along the water.
From Park Westerkogge, it is only a fifteen minute drive to the nearby city of Hoorn. The historic centre of Hoorn, with its many welcoming restaurants, shops and cultural hotspots is definitely worth a visit. In Hoorn, for example, you will find the famous Café aan de Haven and various museums such as the Westfries Museum and the Museum of the 20th century.
There are all kinds of things to do on the park itself and in the area surrounding Berkhout, for all ages. For example, you could visit one of the many museums, zoos, amusement parks or indoor and outdoor play areas.
